JWCH Institute Inc. is a private non-profit health agency that was established as the Attending Staff Association of the John Wesley County Hospital in 1960 by concerned L.A. County physicians. These staff physicians sought to establish an agency that could obtain additional funds to support and augment patient care, education, and research at the John Wesley facility. When the hospital was demolished in 1979, the agency continued its efforts to assist LA County patients, but the name was no longer relevant and was subsequently changed to JWCH Institute Inc.

The agency's current mission is to improve the health and wellness of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education services and research. The mission is being accomplished through a variety of programs and activities, such as: medical outreach and referrals for medical care, HIV services and drug treatment; health education; psychosocial assessment and intervention; primary medical care; family planning services; and research.

The Men’s Health Foundation is part of the national CDC funded provider network to implement high-impact prevention strategies to help reduce the number of new HIV infections and STDs among men and increase the number of men engaged in medical care. These strategies include testing and linkage to care, prevention for negatives (condoms, PrEP, risk reduction counseling) and prevention for positives (Treatment as Prevention).

A leader in the provision of PrEP, the Men’s Health Foundation is currently conducting two PrEP investigator research studies – one for those who have fallen out of PrEP care and another for transgender women. Staff is also engaged in a national PrEP clinical training program that is targeting 15 cities nationally to increase clinical knowledge on PrEP as well as greater access to this proven prevention strategy. Community trainings in multiple U.S. cities and large Men’s Health Summits in key parts of Los Angeles County are underway.

The Men’s Health Foundation is in planning to open a community-based clinic in an underserved part of Los Angeles County to provide HIGH-QUALITY men’s healthcare and prevention services and a cadre of wraparound programs to support retention in care: mental health counseling, patient care coordination, PrEP navigation and benefits counseling.

National Council of Negro Women Incorporated (NCNW) is a nonprofit membership organization founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), a child of slave parents, distinguished educator and government consultant. With a mission to lead, develop and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities, NCNW addresses issues of human welfare and rights through public education, community service and advocacy. Mrs. Bethune called together 28 national women leaders to form "an organization of organizations," a council. When the 28 national women leaders responded to her call she pointed out that what was needed was not another organization, but one that would bring organizations together. Thus, Mrs. Bethune founded the National Council of Negro Women as such - "a national organization of national organizations."

Locally our signature programs include Health Justice for Women with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention, the Phoenix Leadership Academy for Girls and Scholastic Education Advocacy.
